A loss limit is a number you set before blackjack or the slots begin

Precommitment means the loss number exists before the session, not after a bad shoe or a cold slot. On live blackjack, decide the figure in the currency of the table, for example 80, and stop when the chip count is down by that much. On online slots, decide the figure the same way and stop when the balance has fallen by it. The number is the responsible gambling limit. It is chosen while you are still away from the felt and away from the spin button. Changing it upward mid-session is a new, looser plan, which is the failure the precommitment was meant to block.

The client timer helps only when it matches

A timer inside the client is useful only if it matches that plan. A pop-up every hour does not enforce an 80 loss. It only marks time. If you also want a clock, write the clock separately and keep it. Do not let the timer replace the loss number, and do not let a jackpot meter replace either. A wide-area figure climbing on screen is not a reason to raise the loss cap you already set. The cap was the condition for opening the table or the slot.

Live tables and online slots share the same precommitment

Practical shape: write the loss number, set a reminder only if the reminder fires at the point you chose, and close the game when the balance hits the number. For blackjack, that may be a chip count. For slots, it is the cashier balance, so stop spinning and look at the cashier rather than at the last win animation. Do not deposit a replacement amount to restore the cap. The session you committed to is over. Another session, on another day, can have its own number, written again before it starts.
